Step 1: Upload your file

In Canva, click "Uploads" in the left sidebar, then "Upload files," and select your downloaded SVG or PNG. Canva supports both formats, though SVG editing capabilities (like recoloring individual elements) are more limited on Canva's free tier compared to paid plans.

Step 2: Create a canvas at the right size

Click "Create a design" → "Custom size," and set dimensions matching your intended print size (in inches or pixels). Starting with the correct canvas size prevents having to resize and potentially degrade the design later.

Step 3: Place your design on the canvas

Drag the uploaded file from your Uploads panel onto the canvas. Use the corner handles (never the side handles, which distort proportions) to size it appropriately within your canvas.

Step 4: Recolor elements (Pro feature, with a free workaround)

Canva Pro allows direct recoloring of individual SVG elements by clicking each shape and choosing a new color from the panel.   • Design looks pixelated after export: check that you didn't accidentally scale the design up past 100% of its original size on the canvas.
