Printify is one of the two dominant POD platforms (alongside Printful), known for a wider range of print providers and generally lower base costs on some products. Here's the full setup process for connecting it to an existing Etsy shop.
Step 1: Create a Printify account
Go to printify.com and sign up for a free account. No credit card is required to get started โ you only pay for products as orders come in.
Step 2: Connect your Etsy shop
From the Printify dashboard, go to "My Stores" โ "Add new store," select Etsy from the platform list, and follow the prompt to log in and authorize the connection through Etsy's own login page. This links the two platforms so products and orders sync automatically.
Step 3: Choose a print provider
Unlike Printful (which handles its own printing), Printify works with multiple third-party print providers, each with different pricing, product catalogs, and shipping times. Under "Catalog," browse products and compare providers for the same item โ shipping location and turnaround time matter more here than with single-provider platforms, so check reviews for each provider before committing.
Step 4: Upload your design
Select a product, click "Add design," and upload your transparent PNG. Position and size it using the same principles as any POD platform โ center it within the recommended print area and check the resolution warning if one appears.
Step 5: Configure variants
Choose which sizes and colors to offer. It's tempting to enable every option, but each variant adds listing complexity and inventory considerations for you to track โ many successful sellers start with a focused set of the most popular sizes/colors and expand based on actual demand.
Step 6: Set your pricing
Printify shows the base cost per provider; set your retail price to cover that cost, Etsy's listing and transaction fees, payment processing fees, and your margin. Printify has a built-in profit calculator on this screen โ use it rather than guessing.
Step 7: Publish to Etsy
Click "Publish" and select your connected Etsy store. The listing (including title, description template, and images) pushes directly to Etsy, where you can then refine the title and description for SEO before your listing goes fully live.
Step 8: Test order (recommended)
Before promoting the listing heavily, consider placing a test order yourself to check actual print quality, packaging, and shipping time from your chosen provider โ this catches issues before a real customer does.
