Simply dragging a PNG's corner to make it bigger in most editors just stretches existing pixels โ€” it doesn't add real detail, and the result looks soft or blocky. Here's how to upscale properly using free tools, and when upscaling won't be enough.

Step 1: Check if you actually need to upscale

If the file is already large enough at your target size, skip upscaling entirely โ€” it's an extra processing step that's only necessary when the source file is genuinely too small.
