Open any basic t-shirt on Printify and you'll often find a handful of different print providers offering essentially the same product at different prices, different shipping times, and different quality reputations โ which is genuinely useful once you know how to compare them, and confusing if you're just picking whichever shows up first.
Start with the provider's own rating and review count, visible directly in Printify's provider selection screen. A provider with thousands of reviews and a consistent 4.5+ rating is a safer default than one with a handful of reviews and a slightly lower average, even if the second one is a few cents cheaper per unit โ a couple cents saved isn't worth a higher defect rate eating into your margin through refunds and reprints.
Shipping location matters more than people initially think, especially if most of your customers are in one region. A provider based near your customer base means faster, often cheaper shipping, which shows up directly in your customer's experience and, indirectly, in your reviews. Printify shows estimated shipping times per provider, and it's worth actually comparing these rather than assuming they're all similar.
Print method can vary between providers even for the same nominal product โ one provider might use DTG for a shirt while another uses a different process entirely, which can produce a genuinely different look and feel on what appears to be an identical listing. If you have a strong opinion about print method (see our DTG vs DTF vs screen printing breakdown), check which method each specific provider actually uses before assuming they're interchangeable.
The most reliable way to actually decide, beyond reading reviews: order a sample from your top one or two provider candidates before committing a whole product line to one of them. A $15-20 sample order is cheap insurance against discovering, after fifty customer orders, that your chosen provider's shirts run oddly small or their print quality doesn't hold up the way the reviews suggested.
