DPI (dots per inch) measures how much image detail is packed into each inch of the final print. A file might look perfectly sharp on your screen at 72 DPI because monitors don't need much detail โ but printed at that same resolution, the same image would look soft or blocky, because print requires far more density than a screen does.
The rule of thumb by print size
- Small prints (up to 4"x4"), like patches or sticker sheets: 300 DPI at final size is ideal.
- Standard chest prints (10"โ12" wide): 300 DPI at final size, or a file large enough that scaling down still lands near 300 DPI.
